The story of Albert Kahn’s quest to create, through the nascent technology of autochrome, “a photographic inventory of the planet as it is inhabited and managed by humanity at the beginning of the 20th century”
It’s a real treat to see color pictures of the turn of the century.
There is a slideshow with some of the images here, and a documentary (some of which has turned up on YouTube) is airing on the BBC. I’ll definitely have to obtain the whole thing.
