The Apollo 11 Saturn V space vehicle climbs toward orbit after liftoff from Pad 39A at 9:32 a.m. EDT in July 16, 1969. In 2 1/2 minutes of powered flight, the S-IC booster lifts the vehicle to an altitude of about 39 miles some 55 miles downrange.
I just watched For All Mankind again last night (This is a still from footage also used in the film.) It just came out on an absolutely gorgeous blu-ray, but it’s also on Instant Netflix. You should watch it. Seriously. Hopefully watching these guys go on the greatest adventure in human history will do for you what it did for me and restore some of your faith in humanity, and hope for the future.
